Category of Service: Arts & Humanities
The A.D. White Society Ltd., was established for historical preservation and genealogy of the Avella, PA, and Tri-State area.
Programs and Services
- The Society was founded in 1995 to preserve the work and archives of A.D. White, an outstanding educator, historian, genealogist, and humanitarian. Cross Creek, Hopewell, and Jefferson Townships in Washington County were the places where he spent his working life as an educator in the school systems. Our service area encompasses the current Avella, Burgettstown, Fort Cherry, and McGuffey School Districts.
- Annual programs include a regional History Fair in Avella in September, a lecture program at Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, and walking tours of places of historical interest.
- The Society owns the Avella Train Station which contains family records, pictures, and notes from A.D. White and other local historians. It publishes a newsletter several times a year highlighting people and places that contributed to the life of the area.
- Donations of family histories, journals, and artifacts related to families of the area are welcome.
