Mission

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

Programs and Services

  • Through our Community-based Mentoring Program, underserved children from Washington County are matched with a caring adult mentor based on interests and preferences, to develop long-term relationships. Matches meet monthly, in the community -- attending concerts, cooking, doing homework together, or just hanging out. Youth develop a trusting relationship with their mentor, that helps promote positive youth outcomes.
  • Through our Site-Based Mentoring Program, children from Washington Park Elementary and Trinity West Intermediate Schools are provided mentors from Washington Jefferson College to help with homework, explore career options, and set goals, while participating in structured activities in a supervised setting. These activities lead to improved academic achievement, improved self confidence, and the skills to succeed in life.
  • Across each program, every relationship is professionally monitored by a Match Support Specialist (Case Worker) who ensures child safety, facilitated healthy relationship develop, and promotes positive youth outcomes. These youth outcomes include more confidence in their academic work, reduced truancy in school, and the avoidance of risky behaviors such as drug and alcohol usage and violence.
